Chapter 8 – The Woodpecker

Uber was running fast through the woods and the passengers were comfortably sat on his soft and furry back. They only had to pay attention to low branches. Sibil was in the middle and she was still in a bad mood, but the race in the woods was putting her in a better state of mind, while Sam and Ludwig were very excited and they were laughing loudly.
The woods looked unending: trees after trees, covered in moss and ivy, big roots were coming out of the soil and the smell of mushroom and moss was stronger and stronger. Here and there curious eyes looked at them from high above the trees or hidden between the roots: wild rabbits, owls and squirrels.
Suddenly Uber came to a halt in a small clearing amongst centuries old trees. The light of the sun was filtering to the east, giving a sparkling reflection to the leaves and the grass, while the northern part of the clearing was still in the shade. Half the grass was scattered with wild daysies that were enjoying the morning sun while the other half was still sleeping. Everything was silent except for the THUD THUD THUD of a woodpecker on a tree.

“Here we are,” Uber said but nothing was telling them that that very place was inhabited.
“Where are the Goblins?” asked Sam
“I suppose we only have to wait up until they decide to show themselves to us. They are terribly good at camouflaging themselves and their houses.” replied Ludwig
