Chapter 9 – The doorbell

Peony and Dora were sitting at the table discussing about their plan to avoid the helpers of the Wizard and, at the same time, reach the gnome witch. It looked an impossible task because the woodlands were full of red-eyed rabbit robots ready to attack and spy on them.
Suddenly, the doorbell rang.
Peony stood up and went to the door. When she opened the wooden door she found a young woman with pointed ears, long blue hair, a greenish jacket, muddy boots and a silver bow.
“Hello, I am Bayrendil an elf of the woods and I have come to offer you my help.”
“Please come inside and tell us the reasons why you would like to help us!” Dora said from behind Peony. She did not trust that stranger with pointed ears.
Bayrendil sat at the table and handed them an old map “this is the map of the elf land that spreads through the woodlands and borders with th Maple Kingdom. You can see here there are hidden ways that can be used to come and go without being detected.”
“How can it be?”
“Easy you only have to wear this necklace that is camouflaging you and walk along these magic paths.” The necklace had red and orange beads with some charms: a leaf, a robin, a tree branch, an owl and a wheel.
“Why are you helping us? How can we trust you?”
“I am Bayrendil from the Stormy Mountains and sister of the Elf king. Two years ago the Wizard of the Winter Oak has stolen our most precious gem, the blue water gem that is sacred for us. He is using its magic to spread the cold disease and we cannot accept that our magic is used for wicked plans.”
“I see…”
“What is your plan?” asked Peony
“I am going to help you find the cure for the disease and you are going to help me reach the Wizard and steal the gem back!”
“Give us time to think on your proposal” said Dora
“Alright, I’ll be camping outside next to that poplar. By the way, have you got some bread and cheese? I have rushed out in the morning and forgot to bring food for a few days with me.”
“You’ll be our guests. You can camp outside if you like but you’ll have meals with us!” said Dora. In this way she could check further on that elf that looked too much willing to help…
